Sony UK Announces 6 New Imaging Ambassadors

From stunning landscapes to action-packed sports to celebrity portraiture, Sony today announces six wildly varied additions to Sony’s Imaging Ambassadors programme (Europe). The new UK based photographers given the prestigious honour are Gavin Evans, Joe Cornish, Michael Wayne Plant, Nick Webster, Dominic Fraser and Andrew Scriven.

The ambassador programme is rooted in storytelling and its aim is to provide photographers with the innovative tools to create beautiful images. The world-leading photographers involved work across the globe and together have documented fame, fashion, culture, sportsmanship, war, human devastation, celebration and environmental shifts.

Acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Gavin Evans is renowned for his unique take on portraiture, with an extraordinary list of luminaries sitting for him, from Iggy Pop and Björk, to Dusty Springfield and Gary Oldman. In 2013, his image of David Bowie was used for the cover of the V&A’s Bowie Is exhibition publication and his work has graced the pages of leading international sources from The New York Times to the Sunday Times.

A renowned landscape photographer and printer with nearly forty years of experience, Joe Cornish’sworking life has been transformed by the digital revolution, yet he retains a rigorous, craft-based approach with his camerawork. An influential writer, thinker, workshop leader and mentor he has been one of the judges of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, a regular host of the Natural History Museum’s Understanding Photography seminars, and is an outspoken advocate of environmental protection. There is a gallery in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, devoted to his work, and he is an honorary Fellow of the RPS.

Little moments, the quiet observation of others, the actions that we do in public, the glance at another, these often make for compelling photographs of people in public spaces – this is what Michael Wayne Plant captures in his photography, made while exploring the social landscape created by contemporary life. His photography has been published in a wide range of international magazines including Vogue, Tatler, Dazed & Confused, Madame Figaro & Teckniart.

Nick Webster is predominantly a fashion and sport photographer, who has seen work published in national and international publications. Nick has photographed a range of events as diverse as the Tour de France to commissioned advertising campaigns for major fashion brands.

Photographer and videographer Dominic Fraser has over 20 years’ experience, focused heavily on automobiles. His career history encompasses work with brands including Jaguar, Bentley, Bugatti and Aston Martin.

Travel and wildlife photographer Andrew Scriven is passionate about adventuring and exploring the globe, always with his camera in hand. From photographing lions in Tanzania to polar bears in Svalbard his broad range of experience spans the globe. Andrew won Digital Photographer Wildlife Photograph of the Year 2012, was a finalist in The Sony World Photography Awards 2011, and the 2010 National Geographic Photo Contest.

Running the programme on Sony’s behalf is the World Photography Organisation (WPO), an international organisation providing various platforms and programmes for photographers of all levels and disciplines, along with educational and cultural programmes for the public. Sony has a long-standing partnership with WPO through their sponsorship of the annual World Photography Awards.
