Edinburgh College student Lorraine Ross was runner up in this year’s Exhibtr Student Photography Competition for her shot of Glaswegian band Chvrches, shot at T in the Park last year.
Lorraine left school in 2004 wanting to be a fine artist, and further explains.
‘I’ve always loved taking photos. I remember on my 7th birthday at Euro Disney begging my dad to show me how to work his SLR camera. Like most photographers, I always struggled with the self-belief that it was something that I could ever make into a career. I stumbled through call centre jobs, photographing bands, burlesque performers, fashion models and weddings on the side.’
‘I’ve had so many amazing opportunities and experiences from my photography. T in the Park last year was one of my highlights and brought me back to my teens photographing up and coming bands and concert photography. Chvrches are one my favourite bands at the moment, so I was thrilled that one of my shots was picked as a winner for the competition with Exhibtr.’
Lorraine is now getting published features, paid work and building a following on social media. She has quit her job and is studying for an HND in Interactive Media (Web Development) at Edinburgh College and says she is really excited at what the future holds.
