David Uzochukwu was the winner of 2014/15 Exhibtr Student Photography Prize for his self-portrait ‘Monolith’.
David was born in Innsbruck, moved to Luxembourg when he was 6 years and now works out of Brussels. Although David likes to spend free time reading, and traveling he describes Photography as ‘one of the best things that ever happened to me, as it changed my view of the world and the way I see people’.
The Internet helped David discover the work of Laura Zalenga one of his earliest inspirations. Impressed by her work, it motivated him to start producing portraits and self-portraits.
When David discovers projects that spark his interest, he begins building a story around the subject, a process that can take several days, and once happy with the concept, makes the shoot. He then brings everything together in post-production, changing colours and contrast and turning the picture into his initial vision.
David finds personal work more satisfying than client work as there are no limits or restrictions, allowing him to fully explore his imagination and get closer to ‘who he really is’.
David says he is still growing but we predict a bright future for this emergent talent.
